Coach Helfrich and Dakota Prukop spoke today after the spring's only "open" practice. It was not open for media but was open to students and ticket holders. About 100 people showed up to watch the action on the practice fields.

Sr. QB Dakota Prukop

What was it like having a crowd watching you at practice?

It was cool. It definitely brought a little bit of energy to today’s practice. We really enjoyed that.

Are you playing at the speed you want to play at?

There is definitely room for improvement but from week one and two it is night and day different. About two or three weeks in there was a Wednesday practice and things just started flowing and I just felt much more comfortable and confident in the offense. I could see the signal one time and get the paly and just know it. Not have to sit there and watch the signal over and over and over. That just helps you get everyone set and just do the quarterback’s job.

What is Yost like during practice?

He is a vocal guy. He is a communicator. He does a really good job because after each series, we jog off the field, and hustle right back over (to him). He’ll go back all those plays with you. He’ll say ‘good job on this play, good job on this play, on this play work through the read more, on this play get your feet set…’ So he a really good memory which is nice because you get instantaneous response how you are doing.

What do you know about the spring game format?

We haven't really talked about it yet. One thing I do know is Travis and I will QB the two teams.

Mark Helfrich

What will the spring game format be?

That will be determined this afternoon. It literally is to be determined completely based on health. We want to play a game.

How about the game draft?

Most likely our old school draft: Coaches, frivolity, etc.

Pharaoh: He has looked good. He has been in and out. I think the biggest thing is just confidence. He is getting there functionally; he wouldn’t be out there if he wasn’t cleared from a medical perspective. So it’s just confidence.

Vernon Adams said on the Dan Patrick show that he should be the second quarterback selected. Thoughts?

I’m surprised he didn’t say first. He obviously has a reason to be confident and believe in himself. He’s proven himself at all levels. That will be an interesting day. A lot of movement and it will be very interesting to see what happens.

Still getting calls from NFL scouts heading into draft week?

Yes, especially for those top guys. I had a few guys text and call on DeForest in the last week. The great thing, almost without exception for the last several years is that it is easy. It’s ‘what the film says is what you are going to get.’ Great kids and DeForest is a great example of that; a great person and will make any franchise better. So those are fun questions to field.
