Don't know if you've been paying attention to the interviews but an item that has come up a few times is the term 'Havoc Rating'. I think it's a cool name and concept which basically is a metric which the Oregon coaches measure, basically for defense how disruptive is the player in different situations. For each position they have different metrics/items they watch. For interior DL it is third downs. Coach Salave'a explained.
"It is opportunities at the ball. For us (DT/NT) it is in third down situations. Obviously, it is kind of scarce sometimes with interior guys but we have certain opportunities there. The ones that continue to beat their one on ones and are around the ball are the ones being graded for production. It is a no brainere but it the best way to make sure all our guys our understanding where they are at and where they can do to improve themselves.
"It is no different than grading their technique, their effort. All those things. It is one thing to be evaluated but to have those presented to the guys gives them a meaning of why they need to go hard, why they need to be exact in terms of execution and the consistency part."
