I have heard a lot of talk about this the last couple of days. Hiring a coach with Oregon ties like Justin Wilcox for example. Obviously, that makes it a very small pool. So how do you hire a coach who "wants " to be at Oregon. It' s simple. Seven year deal starting with a 100 million dollar buy out. Going down 10 million a year. Crazy you say? I don't know. There is no limit on a buyout. If you offer a Luke Fickel 9 million a year, with the toxic buyout that would guarantee a 6-8 year commitment and he doesn't want it, move on to the next candidate. You are telling the person you hire that you want more than a 2-3 year commitment. That is by no means unreasonable A good chance that someone really good wants to make a commitment. I'm not convinced that Mario is leaving , but if he does. something has to be done to put an end to what I consider betrayal. Ducks gave Willie his chance. Ducks gave Mario his chance. He will have built the program to the doorstep of real success and then destroy that progress in an instant. As far as his family, with the money he will be making , he can buy his own private jet and be in Miami in 5 hours whenever he needs to be.
