Just got back from the Cristobal presser. I asked him two questions, one if film review revealed anything and two, what they need to do to tighten up the PAT unit.
DSA's questions
Anything else stick out on film after review?
When you have a victory like that, I think over the past couple of weeks, our team has found different ways to win. First that’ a testament to the character, to the care factor, to the brotherhood of the guys in the locker room because winning football games are hard and sometimes people say they worry about emotional roller coasters coming off of a big win on the road.
We knew that Washington State was going to present some challenges, we knew they were a more difficult and very unique scheme and we knew that somebody in that locker room, and sometimes an unexpected person was going to have to step up and make plays. I think everyone in their own respective right mad a significant play in that game. I think across the board there’s a lot of guys to mention but I think that our team and our staff feels comfortable in saying giving it to the team instead of picking out individuals. Proud of the team effort.
You guys need to do anything to tighten up the PAT unit?
When we talk about technique and fundamentals, kicking the football is the ultimate technique and fundamentally oriented task, right. It’s almost as simple as wherever those hips face, that’s where the ball is going to go. If you come across your body the ball is going to go across and maybe right by the upright as well. Without question every detail of that unit, because at Stanford we had the foot of the guard tip that ball.
That could have gone the other way, right. In a game like this, we had to play catch-up, we had to score on a 2-point conversion to have a shot to win at the end. That 2-point conversion became even more critical to have. It becomes a domino effect if things like that become a reality. We are fully committed to making sure our PAT and our field goal unit is operating at the highest possible level. Can’t have those mistakes.
