Johnny Johnson III is the most improved player on the Oregon offense. After a struggling sophomore season he's blossomed under Jovon Bouknight. He currently leads the team with 45 catches for 692 yards and five touchdowns.
The Chandler High School product had a spectacular game returning home before family and friends in Tempe, grabbing a career-high 10 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns.
He played with terrific energy and confidence on a night his quarterback and defense looked out of synch.
It will be interesting to see if the big night propels him forward as a receiver. He showed how dynamic he can be, getting open, making clutch catches, looking dangerous in the open field and knifing through defenders after the catch, using his blockers to score a momentum-seizing touchdown on a bubble screen.
What's his ceiling? After Saturday night, it seems possible he could become an exceptional weapon in the stretch drive of this season and as a senior. He's always been a hard worker and a technician. I think Bouknight has helped him tremendously; he's a similar type of player to what his coach was at Wyoming where he blossomed into a Biletnikoff Award Finalist.
