It's not because our colors of green and yellow are the same, it's the similarity of the universal appeal of the underdog. The totally unpredictable wins by underdogs in remote locales given no chance by media centers bent on hyping the established powers.

Except they win...against the media anointed.

The difference is that Green Bay only has the Packers. We have our track champions, our volleyballers, our football team of recent glory, our Altman achievers who don't quit and who are in the national conversation.

We have Phil Knight to thanks for this, and more...a lot more in the field of law and academics. But it takes more than dollars to win. It takes talent on the field and in the coach's box.

I'd like to see us act with a dignity that we've earned.

I feel that we have reached, or have close to reaching a national brand that exceeds Eugene, the State and even the Pac 12. Sustaining this will constantly challenge us, make demands on us, but always imbed in us that complacency invites defeat and that innovation is the renewing gel of success, if not survival.
