Titans / Cards

Just wanted to share my experience today in Glendale. I took my wife and daughter to the Titans / Cards game in Glendale today because my wife made me promise. I promised her that If I went with the guys to watch Oregon throttle FSU in the Rose Bowl, I owed her a future trip to see Marcus play in an NFL game. I chose this one a year ago because of the weather this time of year. The weather was perfect.

I was so pleased with all of the "Go Ducks" I received for sporting Oregon gear. I was also amazed at how many Tennessee #8 jerseys there were. Just thought it was really cool that so many Oregon fans and new Mariota fans were in attendance today.

Recruit/Coach picture 12/9

On Scott's twitter there is a retweet of Shough's with two pictures, one of recruits visiting and another that has 19 people in it. In the 19 are 8 recruits (the other picture has them alone) and the following coaches I can identify: Cristobal, Heyward, Clark, Arroyo, Gilbertson (GA), Pimpleton. The other four I am not sure of (think 2 are GA's Agyeman and Johnson). I went back and forth from the mug shots on the GoDucks roster page and the picture for ID's. Hair styles different making some hard to figure out. I thought it might give us an insight as to who is staying, but no Joe who is thought to be staying. I know it doesn't have to mean anything. Could someone help with the other ID's? Sorry, don't know how to link or import picture.

I was not aware of this....

In today’s practice report from Rob Moseley, this sentence caught my eye:

“After he finished, Cristobal had associate head coach and D line assistant Joe Salave'a address the team.”

That pretty much tells me Leavitt is gone after the bowl game. I know many speculated that earlier but this little nugget seems to seal that idea. Now if I’m the last one to this party, I apologize. But this was news to me. And I can’t say I’m upset over it.

Coaches

As it’s starting to shake out I’d like to throw these questions out to Branden & AJ. We seem to be looking fairly certain to lose Leavitt and Pimpleton. What are your thoughts on these coaches who seem in play

Johnson - Harbaugh recommend
Heyward - OSU
Clark - came w Leavitt
Woodie - WT guy but seems possible

Would be a home run to keep those 4, but what are the odds.Losing both DB coaches would hurt w pulling in our DB recruits.

Next move to solidfy this class...Heyward

Of course, try to keep Leavitt by making him the assistant head coach, and big pay raise (water is wet per DF4L)

If this fails, and Heyward is going to leave with Taggart, then promote him to DC. I have no idea if he is ready, but from what I hear he is the up and comer of the position coaches on D. This will be a step in keeping the excellent DB class on board.

We will find out if he is good and can adjust from there. Keeping the class together is job one. There are dozens of coaches who can win if they have the best players. This class changes the trajectory for the next 4 years.

Gotta keep coach Joe as well, but my guess is that he will stay as D line coach.

THANK YOU DSA STAFF !!!

A.J., Scott, Brandon and everyone on the DSA staff for all your hard work this season, bringing all
the relevant information to your members concerning the Duck Athletic Program. It has been an exciting time the past several years and very much filled with turmoil the nearest year or so. Regardless, you have all taken it in stride, remained prompt, professional and spot on with your commentary. We members are very lucky to have the opportunity to be on your team. Thank You! PMM

You in or out Coach?

So MC can sit back and wait until the LV Bowl is over to watch a few coaches leave town and in the meantime sway our recruits to follow. Or he can be aggressive, proactive and take charge of the short window before early signing day (12/20). Here are some thoughts:
1) MC has a one-on-one meeting with every single coach and asks them point-blank… Are you in or are you out? If they blink or have any “I need to weigh my options” or “family decision” answer, they’re gone.
2) After all individual meetings have a coaches meeting & tell all of them that he respects their need to stay open and listen to their wife, but we owe it to these recruits that we have committed to over the last year and let them know we’re a Family.
3) MC, Big Joe, Arroyo, Heyward & any other committed coach calls every single commit, de-commit and prospective recruit and let them know attrition happens but the Mighy Ducks are a Family!
4) These committed coaches can also remind the fully committed kids that the de-commits/prospects that have visited about Autzen, academics, close ‘18 class bond & Family environment. Coaches come and go but MC’s buyout was inflated for a reason & we’ll be together for the next 4-years.
5) Psychology being that many of the de-commits fell in love with several things when they originally committed not just Slick Willie or their position coach. Those that did buy the Slickster are already gone.

I think it would be pretty powerful for Big Joe to call Hufanga, Cota & Lenzy and let them know... “you may not be one of my D-lineman but I will be involved in your development daily as a person & player because we’re a Family. I owe it to every young man on Our Team to help them in any way possible, whether you’re an OL, RB’s & Kicker. The only way to win a Natty is together as a Family!”

Hopefully a couple on the fence choose to NOT decide during the early signing period, which buys us extra time before February to perfect the class.

Keep Jim Leavitt

If we were some way able to keep Leavitt it would be fantastic. Exceptional recruiter and one of the best Defensive Coordinators in the country. Make him the assistant H.C give him a nice raise. Whatever it takes. If we keep Leavitt I think the team and coaching staff will end up doing much better in the long run than they would have under Taggart.
