So MC can sit back and wait until the LV Bowl is over to watch a few coaches leave town and in the meantime sway our recruits to follow. Or he can be aggressive, proactive and take charge of the short window before early signing day (12/20). Here are some thoughts:
1) MC has a one-on-one meeting with every single coach and asks them point-blank… Are you in or are you out? If they blink or have any “I need to weigh my options” or “family decision” answer, they’re gone.
2) After all individual meetings have a coaches meeting & tell all of them that he respects their need to stay open and listen to their wife, but we owe it to these recruits that we have committed to over the last year and let them know we’re a Family.
3) MC, Big Joe, Arroyo, Heyward & any other committed coach calls every single commit, de-commit and prospective recruit and let them know attrition happens but the Mighy Ducks are a Family!
4) These committed coaches can also remind the fully committed kids that the de-commits/prospects that have visited about Autzen, academics, close ‘18 class bond & Family environment. Coaches come and go but MC’s buyout was inflated for a reason & we’ll be together for the next 4-years.
5) Psychology being that many of the de-commits fell in love with several things when they originally committed not just Slick Willie or their position coach. Those that did buy the Slickster are already gone.
I think it would be pretty powerful for Big Joe to call Hufanga, Cota & Lenzy and let them know... “you may not be one of my D-lineman but I will be involved in your development daily as a person & player because we’re a Family. I owe it to every young man on Our Team to help them in any way possible, whether you’re an OL, RB’s & Kicker. The only way to win a Natty is together as a Family!”
Hopefully a couple on the fence choose to NOT decide during the early signing period, which buys us extra time before February to perfect the class.
