Never done one of these, so here goes. My simple thinking is this. If it is a big part Mario, then he needs help, and a different kind of help then he's getting. He's such a good face for the program, recruiter...we sure don't want t toss the baby with the bath water. With new QB highly rated QB's coming in, now's the time.

Food for thought

- I am not going to sugarcoat this and say it was a brilliant game plan on either side of the ball in the Fifth Quarter tomorrow
-However, four plays which were purely execution plays show what this game could have been:
1) Marcus Arroyo did not fumble the ball before crossing the goal line; that was a well designed play and should have been a score. (31-10)
2) Juwan Johnson was wide open on variant of a sluggo route; Marcus Arroyo did not sail that ball over his head. That should have been another TD (38-10)
3) Johnny Johnson was open for an easy TD in the end zone, Herbert zipped it when he should have put a little touch on the ball. (45-10)
4) Marcus Arroyo did not miss a 24-yard FG (48-10)

Think about those execution miscues and wonder how much agony would be felt in a 48-10 victory.

I know - the staff is responsible for some of the regression; I get it, but these mistakes Herbert is making (mostly) are more psychological than anything at this point. He absolutely knows proper footwork on release; he absolutely zip and when to add some touch; but in the heat of the moment, he is not making those plays.

There is a reason that sports psychology exists as a separate field and it might be apropos here.

There were some issues I had with the overall plan which I will detail in the morning with Fifth Quarter.

Special Teams

Other than kick offs and FG's the rest of those are really shinning. We see really good young athletes all over the field and Wright might have won the game yesterday. From the Auburn opener to yesterday's performance, special teams rock this year.

Herbert Has Some Decisions

Oregon has been eliminated from the college football playoffs with the loss to ASU. Utah has the best chance to make the playoff and with a win against the Ducks, there is a great chance they could get in. That means, with a loss, Oregon may land in the Rose Bowl which is not a bad consolation prize.

If you’re Herbert, do you play in the PAC12 championship game and the Rose Bowl knowing you risk an injury that could cost you millions or do you bow out and stand on the sidelines while Shough balls out for the Ducks? Personally, I don’t think Justin will sit out, particularly the PAC12 championship game but the Rose Bowl against the BIG10 runner up, might be a good one for him to pull out of.

I thought some might have an opinion on that since Herbert is slated to be taken high in the first round.
